Visible‐Light‐Driven Hydrogen Evolution Using Planarized Conjugated Polymer Photocatalysts

Linear poly(p-phenylene)s are modestly active UV photocatalysts for hydrogen production in the presence of a sacrificial electron donor. Introduction of planarized fluorene, carbazole, dibenzo[b,d]thiophene or dibenzo[b,d]thiophene sulfone units greatly enhances the H2 evolution rate. The most active dibenzo[b,d]thiophene sulfone co-polymer has a UV photocatalytic activity that rivals TiO2, but...

Advanced nanoporous TiO2 photocatalysts by hydrogen plasma for efficient solar-light photocatalytic application

We report an effect involving hydrogen (H2)-plasma-treated nanoporous TiO2(H-TiO2) photocatalysts that improve photocatalytic performance under solar-light illumination. H-TiO2 photocatalysts were prepared by application of hydrogen plasma of assynthesized TiO2(a-TiO2) without annealing process. Compared with the a-TiO2, the H-TiO2 exhibited high anatase/brookite bicrystallinity and a porous st...

Multicomponent sulfides as narrow gap hydrogen evolution photocatalysts.

A series of mixed crystals composed of Cu(2)ZnSnS(4), Ag(2)ZnSnS(4) and ZnS was prepared by co-precipitation of the corresponding metal ions in aqueous sodium sulfide followed by annealing in a sulfur atmosphere. Ideal solid solutions of Cu(2)ZnSnS(4) and Ag(2)ZnSnS(4) with a kesterite structure ((Cu(x)Ag(1-x))(2)ZnSnS(4) (0 ≤x≤ 1)) were successfully obtained by this procedure, as confirmed by ...

Tunable organic photocatalysts for visible-light-driven hydrogen evolution.

Photocatalytic hydrogen production from water offers an abundant, clean fuel source, but it is challenging to produce photocatalysts that use the solar spectrum effectively. Many hydrogen-evolving photocatalysts are active in the ultraviolet range, but ultraviolet light accounts for only 3% of the energy available in the solar spectrum at ground level. Solid-state crystalline photocatalysts hav...

Hydrogen evolution from water splitting on nanocomposite photocatalysts

The photocatalytic production of H2 in one step is potentially one of the most promising ways for the conversion and storage of solar energy. The paper overviews our recent studies on the photocatalysts splitting water into hydrogen under irradiation. The attention was mainly focused on the promotion effects of nanosized modifications in the interlayer and surface of photocatalysts for hydrogen...
